John Del Rico

==Early life==

John Del Rico was born in Los Angeles, California. John's mother, Ingrid came to America from Germany after WWII and met John's father Herencia Del Rico, a Cuban Italian industrial engineer and a successful inventor of manufacturing equipment and tools. Ingrid had two daughters from a previous marriage and Herencia had two sons and a daughter. The family lived in Beverly Hills, California near Alfred Hitchcock and Dean Martin. Del Rico’s parents sold their Beverly Hills home in 1965 to Robert Culp, who had just landed the television series (I Spy ), with Bill Cosby. Del Rico’s parents decided to move the family out of the city to the suburbs of Orange County, California which was still a developing community.
Del Rico’s parents divorced and Del Rico lived mainly with his mother, and visited his father on weekends, where Del Rico learned how to play the drums accompanying his father, who would play jazz on his Hammond organ. As a child Del Rico was fascinated with comedic actors and television variety shows hosted by Dean Martin, Lawrence Welk and Red Skelton. While watching (Bud Friedman )’s An evening at the Improv, Del Rico watched an unknown comedian perform, which was part of the show and designed to showcase new comedians. After watching the new comedian bomb on national television Del Rico gained the confidence to try to perform his comedy on stage at the Hollywood Improv, where the show was taped. Del Rico was hooked and signed up for the Improv’s Open Mics.
